让步状语从句通常是用于加强主句语气的从句，表示强调，所以在阅读理解中有着重要地位，是命题专家命题的热点表达。

1.常用的让步状语从句连接词有although，though，even though和while。

例如：

I used to read a lot although/ though I don't get much time for books now.

【译文】虽然现在我没有太多时间读书，但在过去我读了很多书。

She couldn，t resist the idea of admiring superheroines (女强人）even though she had resolved to believe no more such modern fairy tales.

【译文】虽然她决心不再相信这些现代神话故事，但她却情不自禁对女强人充满了敬仰。

While I did well in class，I was a poor performer at games.

【译文】虽然课堂上我表现很好，但在比赛时我表现却很差。

注意：even though 与 even if 的区别

even though表示尽管有什么样的事实存在（ = despite the fact that) ;even if则受其中if 的影响，表示即使之意，后面的内容不一定是既成事实。

例如：

Even though John doesn't speak Japanese，he should still pay a visit.

【译文】虽然约翰不讲日语，他也应该去日本看看。

Even if John doesn't speak Japanese，he should still pay a visit.

【译文】即使约翰不讲日语，他也应该去日本看看。

2. whether... or(not)为无论......还是......”之意，用于加强主句的语气，表示强调。

例如：

Whether you go to a launderette(自动洗衣店）or do your washing at home，the routine is the same.

【译文】无论你是去洗衣店，还是自己在家洗衣服，程序都是一样的。

I get an electrician to check all my electrical appliances every autumn，whether they are giving trouble or not .

【译文】每年秋天我都会让电工把所有的电器检查一遍，无论它们有无问题。

Whether or not people have religious faith，they can believe in the power of love.

【译文】无论人们有无宗教信仰，他们都相信爱情的力量。

3.特殊疑问词加ever，或no matter加特殊疑问词，表示无论怎样，后者多用在非正式文体中。

例如：

Whatever/No matter what you do，you won't win her heart.

【译文】无论你怎样做，都不会赢得她的心。

Whichever/No matter which topic you choose in writing your thesis papers，you will find it difficult to narrow down the focus.

【译文】无论你写论文时选择哪一个标题，都会发现很难集中思路。

However hard/No matter how hard I tried，I couldn't work out the meaning of the metaphor.

【译文】无论怎样努力，我都不能思考出这一暗喻的意思。

4.despite和in spite of…在意思上也表示让步，但它们是介词，后面只能连接名词或动名词，但可以说 despite/in spite of the fact that...(= although)。

例如

Despite the bad weather，he still insisted on going out for a trip.

【译文】尽管天气恶劣，他仍然坚持外出旅行。

We had two more years of profit in spite of paying higher wages than the previous owner.

【译文】虽然相比前任老板我们付出了更高的薪水，但是我们的盈利时间也比他们长两年。

Despite/In spite of being handicapped，he never feels inferior to anyone.

【译文】虽然身体有残疾，他却从不感觉到自卑。

Despite/In spite of the fact that he is handicapped，he never feels inferior to anyone.

=Although he is handicapped，he never feels inferior to anyone.

5. much as置于句首，后面连接的从句也可理解为让步状语从句。

例如：

Much as I admire your courage，I don’t think you acted wisely.

【译文】我虽然佩服你的勇气，但我认为你这样做是不明智的。

Much as we may pride ourselves on our good taste，we are no longer free to choose the things we want，for advertising exerts a subtle influence on us.

【译文】虽然我们可以自夸自己的鉴赏力如何敏锐，但我们已经无法独立自主地选购自 己所需的东西了，因为广告对我们施加了微妙的影响。

类似的形容词、副词、名词乃至动词等都可加as，构成成分前置，表示让步逻辑.
