In English-speaking nations, a professional space traveler is called an ‘astronaut’. The term derives from the Greek words ástron, meaning ‘star’, and nautes, meaning ‘sailor’. So ‘astronaut’ actually means ‘star sailor’!

另一方面，俄罗斯联邦航天局所雇用的宇航员被称为cosmonaut，这个单词来自于俄罗斯语kosmonavt，意思是在地球大气范围以外的空间工作的人，太空旅行者。Cosmonaut也来自于希腊语kosmos（太空）和nautes（水手），所以cosmonaut就是宇宙水手的意思！

In Russia, however, it’s a bit different. An astronaut who is employed by the Russian Federal Space Agency is called a ‘cosmonaut’. The word originally comes from the Russian word kosmonavt, which means ‘one who works in space outside the Earth’s atmosphere; a space traveler.’ The word cosmonaut also derives from Greek words – kosmos, meaning ‘universe’, and nautes, meaning ‘sailor’.
