There are about one billion bicycles in the world. If you want to try bike riding but don’t know how, then don’t worry – it’s very easy to learn! You can master bike riding by following the advice below:
  • Put your safety first. Although concrete is the easiest surface to ride on, it’s also the hardest. Short grass and tidy gravel might be better alternatives. Lower the seat, and check the tire pressure and brakes. Wearing a helmet is an absolute must.

  • Know how to brake. Check first to make sure you know how your bike’s braking system works. Give yourself a long distance to brake gently and to be able to dismount the bike safely.

  • Balance is key. After you get on the bike, push yourself along a flat surface with your feet and get a feel for       how  the bike leans and steers. Balance is easier to achieve if you go faster.

  • Master riding by steering. After you have learned how to maintain balance, keep pushing yourself, but with your feet up in the air, steering only with your hands. If someone is helping you, ask them to hold the bike behind you and try to keep the bike steady as you pedal.

  • Keep on riding. Practice and pedal until you get it right. At this point, you can even raise the seat a bit – but still leaving it low enough so your feet can touch the ground while seated. Try going from an uphill area onto a flat area. Practice making easy, controllable turns. Once you can ride from a flat area to an uphill area, you can congratulate yourself – you’ve learned to ride a bike!

If bike riding seemed difficult and challenging before, we hope it’s now easier for you to learn. Take it one step at a time and enjoy the ride!
