On a very sunny summer day, there is nothing better than diving into some cool water at the beach or in a pool. If you are worried because you don’t know how to swim, we can help you learn with these five easy steps:
- 安全第一 在学游泳的时候,需要有个人在你身边辅导你。可以先在浅水区里熟悉如何站起来和如何换气。同时水温也很关键,不能够太冰凉。你也可以带上游泳眼镜或者游泳帽。
- safety first. Someone should always accompany you when you are learning how to swim. It is also recommended that your first lesson takes place in steady water that isn’t too deep. You have to be able to stand up and breathe. The temperature of the water is also important – it mustn’t be very cold. If you prefer, you can wear goggles or a water cap.

- Get comfortable with the water. Put your head underwater, tread the water, and move in the water. What does ‘tread the water’ mean? Move your legs in a cycling motion, pushing the water down with your feet, and use your hands to push water from the front of your body to your sides. Practice this until you can keep your head above water without touching the bottom of the pool with your feet.

- Learn how to float. Hold on to the side of the pool (or ask the person helping you to hold you) and let your stomach and legs drift to the surface of the water. - Find your style. There are many swimming techniques: dolphin stroke, butterfly stroke, breaststroke and sidestroke, just to name a few. See first if you are more comfortable floating on your back or on your stomach, and then try doing a crawl. This is a basic move for a beginner that will help you move in the water. If you prefer floating on your back, you will do a back crawl: lift one arm straight into the air, rotating it at the shoulder to bring it over your head and then back into the water. Then, once it’s underwater, bend your arm to bring it back to a straight position next to your body. Repeat this movement, alternating with each arm, and at the same time kick the water with your legs. It works similarly if you are floating on your stomach.
